Pontianak's Non-Container Port Kijing Terminal Strengthens the Supply Chain and Exports of West Kalimantan Commodities

 - PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas) Pontianak Branch through the Kijing Terminal continues to strengthen its role as a strategic node in supporting the smooth flow of the supply chain and export-import activities in the West Kalimantan region.

As part of the national strategic port network, the Kijing Terminal, located in Mempawah Regency, has developed into the backbone of non-containerized cargo services in West Kalimantan since it began operations in August 2022. Operational performance trends show positive year-on-year growth, as throughput volume and logistics activity in the region increase.

Supported by its strategic location adjacent to the international shipping route of the Strait of Malacca, Kijing Terminal plays a vital role in improving logistics connectivity and boosting the competitiveness of the region's leading commodities, particularly the plantation and mining sectors.

In April 2026, the Kijing Terminal resumed loading and unloading of dry bulk bauxite. The barge BG Bahari 30073 unloaded bauxite with a total load of approximately 6,530 tons. The vessel docked on April 19, 2026, and the unloading process continued until April 21, 2026, as part of a series of mineral commodity logistics activities in the region.

This activity is an important part of supporting the mineral-based industrial supply chain, particularly in supporting the raw material needs of the aluminum downstream industry in Indonesia.

Kijing Terminal can handle large vessels up to 100,000 DWT, with a berthing capacity of more than 15 vessels simultaneously. Service capacity is also enhanced through optimization of loading and unloading equipment, including the relocation of assets such as harbor mobile cranes, hoppers, grabs, and buckets, to ensure increasingly efficient and reliable operational processes.

Branch Manager of PTP Nopetikemas Pontianak Branch, Suwanda, said that Kijing Terminal has a strategic position in supporting regional economic growth.

"Kijing Terminal is the economic lifeblood of West Kalimantan, not only supporting the smooth flow of goods but also strengthening the national logistics ecosystem. We continue to optimize services to support the export of superior commodities and maintain supply chain resilience," said Suwanda.

The operational performance of the Kijing Terminal in the first quarter of 2026 reflected the dynamics of logistics flows influenced by the movement of key commodities in West Kalimantan. Total throughput was recorded at approximately 1.5 million tons, with the largest contributions coming from dry bulk commodities (845,000 tons) and liquid bulk (662,000 tons).

In terms of target absorption, dry bulk performance reached 223% and liquid bulk 168%, reflecting high loading and unloading activity in both segments. Meanwhile, bag cargo achieved 93% of its target.

Compared to the same period last year, cargo composition showed adjustments, particularly in the dry bulk, liquid bulk, and bag cargo segments. Nevertheless, operational activity remained dominated by strategic commodities such as bauxite, coal, and alumina, which play a crucial role in the national industrial supply chain.

The Kijing Terminal also plays a role in supporting various National Strategic Projects (PSN), including material handling for the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR). The terminal's presence acts as a catalyst in streamlining the logistics flow for major industrial projects and strengthening West Kalimantan's position as a hub for natural resource-based industrial development.

In supporting digital-based operations, PTP Nonpetikemas also implements PTOS-M (Pelindo Terminal Operating System Multipurpose), an integrated system that includes planning, implementation, and real-time monitoring of loading and unloading activities to improve the efficiency and standardization of port services.

The Branch Manager of PTP Non-container Pontianak Branch stated that his party remains committed to providing reliable and sustainable operational services.

"We are committed to continuously improving the quality of our loading and unloading services by prioritizing safety, efficiency, and facility reliability. We will continue to promote Kijing Terminal as a major logistics hub in West Kalimantan," said Suwanda.

In addition to operational aspects, PTP Nonpetikemas also runs a Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program that focuses on human resource development and empowerment of the surrounding community through education, training, and certification programs for local workers to improve competency and work safety.

PTP Non-container Pontianak Branch continues to be committed to providing the best service in loading and unloading operations, while supporting regional economic growth by strengthening logistics connectivity and increasing the competitiveness of export commodities.

With the support of continuously developed infrastructure and improvements in the quality of operational services, Kijing Terminal is projected to play an increasingly important role in supporting the development of industrial areas, aluminum downstreaming, and the integration of the national logistics ecosystem.
